Overview

Takaio respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how information is collected, used, and protected when you use the Takaio iOS application (“the App”).

Takaio is designed to be a privacy-first expense tracking app. We do not sell your data, do not run ads, and do not track you across apps or websites. Your financial data belongs to you and is used only to provide the core functionality of the app.

Information We Collect

1. Account Information (Optional)

Takaio supports optional account creation using Sign in with Apple.

When you sign in, we receive:

  • A unique user identifier from Apple
  • Depending on your Apple settings, we may also receive your name and email address

Authentication is handled using Firebase Authentication. We do not create or manage passwords.

2. Expense & Financial Data (User-Provided)

The app stores the data you explicitly enter, including:

  • Expenses (amount, date, payee, category, payment method, notes)
  • Categories and monthly budgets
  • Payment methods
  • Selected currency
  • Analytics timestamps (e.g., reset date)

Where this data is stored depends on how you use the App:

  • Guest Mode: Stored locally on your device (see Local Storage below)
  • Signed-in Mode: Stored securely in Firebase Firestore and synced to your account

3. Local Storage (Guest Mode + App Functionality)

Some data is stored locally on your device to:

  • Preserve state between app launches
  • Support Guest Mode
  • Improve performance and support offline use

Guest Mode data persists across app relaunches on the same device.

You can remove Guest Mode data by selecting “Exit Guest Mode (Clear Data)” in the app.

How We Use Your Information

Your information is used only to:

  • Display and manage your expenses
  • Generate summaries, budgets, and analytics
  • Sync data securely across sessions and devices (when you create an account)
  • Export your data when you request it

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or cross-app tracking.

Guest Mode and Cloud Sync

If you start using Takaio in Guest Mode, your data stays on your device.

If you later choose “Create Account & Sync to Cloud”:

  • Your guest data can be migrated and stored in your account in Firebase Firestore
  • After syncing, your data can be available across sessions and (where supported) across devices signed into the same account

Data Sharing

Takaio does not sell, rent, or share your personal or financial data with third parties.

Your data is only shared with:

  • Apple (for Sign in with Apple authentication)
  • Firebase / Google (as backend service providers for authentication and cloud data storage when signed in)

These services are used strictly to operate the app and are not used by Takaio for advertising or third-party tracking.

Data Retention

Guest Mode

  • Guest data is retained locally on your device until you remove it (e.g., by using Exit Guest Mode (Clear Data) or uninstalling the app).

Signed-in Mode

  • Your data is retained as long as your account exists.
  • If you delete your account, all associated data is permanently deleted from our servers.

Sign Out, Exit Guest Mode, and Account Deletion

Sign Out (Signed-in Mode)

When you sign out:

  • Cloud data remains in your account
  • Local app state may be cleared from your device
  • You can sign back in later to access your synced data

Exit Guest Mode (Guest Mode)

When you exit guest mode and clear data:

  • Guest Mode data stored on your device is removed
  • This action only affects data on that device and cannot be undone

Delete Account

You can delete your account directly within the app.

When you delete your account:

  • All expenses, categories, payment methods, and related data stored in the cloud are permanently removed
  • Authentication credentials are deleted
  • The action cannot be undone

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your data, including:

  • Secure authentication via Apple and Firebase
  • Encrypted data transmission
  • Restricted access to backend services

However, no system is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children’s Privacy

Takaio is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access your data
  • Export your data
  • Request deletion of your data

These actions can be completed directly within the app (export and deletion), and by contacting us if needed.

Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page, with the updated date shown at the top.
